In Big Yard, children explore loose parts, tricycles, climbing equipment, a mud kitchen, and plenty of dirt for digging and getting messy. Children will risk and challenge themselves within their own ability and limitations. Our climbing structure is open ended and made of natural materials. Children are allowed to be barefoot if they choose and will have access to water play. A garden is maintained with edibles, plants that attract birds and bees and flowers for picking. Natural materials are available for exploration and integration into the children’s play.

Our program is a designated member of the Outdoor Classroom Demonstration Site Network: www.outdoorclassroomproject.org

Small Yard (not pictured) is where we all enter school. Our sign in/out cart is there. We have an easel with paper so children can ‘sign in’ too. Some of our preschool lunch tables are on small yard. Often we use small yard for focus project or drumming plans
